Orchard Street

Named for the apartment building at 97 Orchard Street, now the Tenement Museum, this floral design evokes the feeling of the old wallpaper discovered inside the apartments. Conservators discovered as many as 20 layers of wallpaper in some of the rooms, papered between 1863 and 1935.

There is a special place in my heart for the Tenement Museum, where I worked in my early twenties. It tells the stories of immigrant families who resided on the Lower East Side in the 19th- and 20th-centuries. Try to visit if you haven’t been!
