Flower Power

It started with a trip to the New York Public Library’s Picture Collection, which houses more than one million images on over 12,000 subjects, from vaudeville and shipwrecks, to fortune telling and English gardens.

For this print, I transformed 19th-century botanical illustrations of water lilies and lotuses into electric blooms in a field of psychedelic purple phlox.
